Cloud Engineer

Viterra is looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer to join our EMEA IT Operations department in Rotterdam. The IT Operations department is responsible for running the IT Infrastructure for the Viterra EMEA region and consists of 40 FTE. You will be part of the DBA & Automation team that is responsible for operating the Oracle and SQL environments, the Linux servers, the Ansible automation platform and our containerization platform. The team consists of 6 engineers.

Viterra is creating innovative cloud-based solutions to support our business. Public cloud environments provide the services and flexibility to build and test new ideas quickly. This role consists of various activities from requirements gathering with the business to solution designing based on these requirements to implementing and maintaining these public cloud-based solutions. We prefer to create and manage all services via Infrastructure as code.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Cloud environments and continuously improve the provided services. In addition, you will participate in projects to design, implement and support innovation-related solutions together with colleagues from IT Operations, the IT Research Desk, and other IT and business departments. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as interactively with other team members.

This role breaks down into four aspects:

• Projects: Participate in projects to move services from on-premise to our cloud environments or to create new solutions in these environments.
• Operational tasks: Participate in the day-to-day management of Viterra’s public cloud environments in AWS and Azure.
• Automation: management and scaling of the environments via infrastructure as code. And support on-premise automation through Ansible playbooks.
• Support Research Desk related environments: Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes container technology for applications and data science models.

• Complete public cloud lifecycle management from commissioning to decommissioning, including deployment, administration, networking, performance monitoring & tuning, security hardening, capacity management, incident resolution, root cause analysis of critical outages, troubleshooting and production operations.
• Managing Python code, infrastructure as code and data pipelines, improving our CI/CD pipelines, and strengthening the knowledge of these components within the IT Operations department. Your role will be to make sure IAAS services can be managed by the other IT Operations teams.
• Design, implement, secure, and optimize scalable, highly available architectures in the cloud throughout the software development lifecycle (dev, test, acc and prod).
• Proactively monitor the health and utilization of the AWS, Azure and Kubernetes environment to detect and prevent problems (also financially), ensure high availability for the users and plan future growth to meet business needs.
• Work together with the Security and IT Operations teams to ensure roles and security protocols are in place for developers and engineers to use AWS and Azure services.

• At least a bachelor"s degree in Information Technology or similar;
• At least 5 years of professional experience required in an international business environment and a similar position;
• Obtained the AWS and Azure Solution Architect certificates;
• A team player with excellent communication skills and a creative mentality;
• Strong and proven experience with creating and managing Azure and AWS environments through infrastructure as code;
• Strong experience with securing cloud environments;
• Experience with Agile environments, DevOps and Scrum would be a preference;
• Good in English (spoken and written);
• Experience in designing, implementing and supporting Linux and Kubernetes (on premise & cloud) technologies;
• Excellent scripting (Bash, yaml and Python).
