Lean Lead Business Implementation (BIM)

APM terminals has embarked on an exciting new growth strategy. Based on its vast experience and internationally recognized processes we aim to have a industry-leading implementation setup through standardized and optimized clear processes whilst managing an agile team to enable delivery. This setup will enable successful evaluation and delivery of various types of projects including large new capital investments, integration of mergers and acquisitions and expansions of existing facilities.

Lean Lead for Business Implementation plays a crucial role in driving Lean agenda for entire BIM Portfolio. Lean Lead will ensure APM Terminals Lean culture, tools, standards are implemented into all new businesses being it acquisitions, Greenfields or other.

Reporting into global Lean operations organization, this role will bring in best practices, tools, standards into BIM and develop Lean implementation strategies and roadmaps for new businesses.

Position available at our terminals: The position is preferred to be based in The Hague, although other APMT locations may also be considered. The role requires global travel, expected to be around 20-30%.

• Provide Lean implementation (timeline, cost, resources, risks, etc.) input to new business cases and due diligences for terminal constructions or acquisitions.

• Define and implement Lean strategies and roadmaps or individual projects/terminals under development.

• Champion Lean culture in BIM.

• Lean leader and partner to BIM leadership and function.

• Build Lean organization and culture from early stages of new terminal developments to ensure all new APMT businesses have solid foundation and maturity from very beginning.

• Onboard and train new projects/businesses on Lean tools and methodologies and help project leadership to establish standard work, Visual Management Systems, reporting, etc.

• For acquisitions, ensure Lean integration is backbone of overall post-merger integration plans and strategies.

• Serve as a change agent by promoting Lean thinking and a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.

• Develop and implement a comprehensive Lean transformation roadmap, guiding the organization towards a Lean culture.

• Support the company’s expansion into new international markets by optimizing market entry processes, improving efficiency, and ensuring scalability.

• Develop Lean-driven strategies to overcome market entry barriers and streamline operations in new regions.

• Coordinate with global and regional teams to ensure alignment with Lean business strategies, overall APM Terminals Business System (ABS) and lean standards.

• Utilize industrial engineering techniques to design and optimize operational processes, reducing waste and improving overall system efficiency.

• Develop Lean roadmap to increase system throughput, reduce operating costs, and decrease inventory levels, directly impacting the bottom line.

• Facilitate collaboration… with broader business objectives and to achieve operational excellence along our end-to-end business processes (e.g. Order to Cash, Source to Pay, etc.)”

• Initiate change by effectively managing and influencing stakeholders, including coaching senior leaders on Policy Deployment and Lean management.

• Foster a culture of servant leadership, leading by example and influencing others to embrace Lean standards.

• Utilize structured Problem-Solving methodology to identify causes, impact, root causes and implement effective and sustainable countermeasures.

• Lead problem-solving initiatives to enhance processes and performance, ensuring quantifiable business impact.

• Initiate continuous improvement through effective Kaizen facilitation, selecting and prioritizing the right Kaizen types.

• Respect and integrate local business practices into the Lean approach while maintaining consistency with the overall global strategy.

• Own and coach Lean community within BIM.

Experience

• Solid experience in managing successful Lean transformations, global business development, or international operations.

• Experience in managing global project & program portfolios and implementing Lean strategies across multiple regions.

• Expertise in Lean methodologies and tools like SQDC, VSM, and TPS, applied within complex operational environments.

• A track record of successfully implementing cost-reduction strategies and efficiency enhancements.

• Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven ability to drive change and influence outcomes.

• Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage global projects and diverse, cross-functional teams.

• Excellent practical knowledge of common Lean tools and experience initiating Lean transformations

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence global stakeholders.

• Cultural awareness and adaptability to manage international teams and markets.

• Demonstrated expertise in obstacle management and the theory of constraints.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effectively engaging global teams and stakeholders.

• Ability to understand and navigate cultural, regional, and market differences in a global business environment.

​Education

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Operations, or related field. Lean certification from authoritative institutions is a plus. MBA or experience in international business is advantageous.
