This role is responsible for leading the regional global trade and product compliance team ensuring that products comply with international, federal, state, and local regulations. This role is also responsible for trade compliance activities ensuring that all import and export movements globally are accurate and compliant with international regulations. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of compliance programs and serving as the critical point of contact for regulatory agencies and business partners regarding product and trade compliance matters.
Product Compliance
- Develop and implement compliance strategies and programs to ensure all products adhere to relevant laws and regulations. Ensure SDS’s and Labels are accurate and compliant for intended markets and destinations globally.
- Develop and maintain documentation, such as compliance standards, procedures, and reports, to support compliance activities.
- Monitor and analyze changes in regulations and standards globally that could affect the company"s products and advise on necessary actions.
- Collaborate with various departments such as R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, legal, product strategy, and marketing to ensure a cohesive approach to product compliance. Continue to focus on controls and enhancements to New Solutions Development (NSD) processes to close product compliance gaps.
- Conduct or oversee product compliance assessments, audits, and risk analyses to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and certification bodies, managing registrations, permits, and other submissions related to product compliance.
- Provide expert advice and support on compliance-related issues and participate in strategic planning.
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry associations and participate in relevant forums to stay abreast with compliance trends and best practices.
Trade Compliance
- Leads regional regulatory compliance program by monitoring regulatory changes; conducting analysis on regulatory impacts; reporting and escalating non-compliance as appropriate; raising issues and concerns; acting on regulatory updates; and supporting the implementation of designated changes.
- Provide regulatory consultation and communication to stakeholders in various business functions, training where needed and assist with trade compliance audits and government inquiries/responses, partnering with government licensing officers and regulators to resolve regulatory matters.
- Develop and implement best practices across relevant departments to prevent trade disruptions and to develop lean approaches to the practices and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead Compliance team on regulatory updates and ongoing monitoring of compliance risk in the region, maintaining own knowledge to effectively implement required changes. Adhere to all sanctions and restrictions globally. Implement approach to monitoring all vendors, customers, and transactions utilizing advanced screening tools.
- Support reporting and analysis of Global Trade Compliance data for local, global reporting and analysis including the maintenance of trade metrics, internal self-audits (Self-Testing) & processes to ensure adherence to customs & import/export requirements
Compliance Project Management
- Lead analysis and revision of compliance programs, policies, and practices to sustain product and trade compliance.
- Lead and manage projects to develop best in class global trade and product compliance practices.
- Provide guidance and input on mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures projects to support inorganic company growth.
- Support and provide guidance on global OEM bids and transactions to allow products to be sold compliantly with necessary approvals
- Bachelor"s degree in a related field such as engineering, law, business administration, or a scientific discipline (i.e., Chemistry).
- 7+ years of experience in product compliance, trade compliance, regulatory affairs, or a related field, with a proven track record of managing compliance programs. Strong understanding of global regulatory requirements and standards relevant to the company"s products. Knowledge of regulatory programs, such as REACH, TSCA, CPSC, CCCR, NOM etc., is preferred.
- Customs Brokers License (preferred)
- Possess analytical, strategic, problem-solving, assessment, interpretive, judicious, and articulation skills to plan, conduct, and document complex product and trade compliance reviews.
- Experience with providing people management coaching to managers, performance management, disciplinary actions and interpreting employment practices.
- Utilizes influencing skills with leaders and key stakeholders to reach win/win outcomes that minimize risk to the company.
- Strong expertise in global, federal, and multi-state employment laws; knowledge of provincial statutes and regulations a plus.
- Ability to understand organizational issues, influence and build relationships at all levels, strong communication capabilities and business acumen.
- Proven ability to balance multiple priorities, partners, and work streams.
- Proficiency on Microsoft software programs, with strong emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
